Danbury resident Fernando “Sosa” Rodriguez, 28, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, U.S. Attorney John Durham announced.
On Sept. 12 last year, the Stamford Police Department set up a string operation after receiving information that he was to conduct a drug deal on Wardwell Street. When Rodriguez arrived, he was busted with the drugs.
A search of a backpack Rodriguez was holding at the time of his arrest had approximately 58 grams of cocaine and 116 grams of marijuana. A police K-9 search of the vehicle led investigators to a secret storage compartment, that contained an additional 100 grams of cocaine, a Ruger 9mm handgun and a loaded 9mm magazine.
Investigators noted that Rodriguez was a convicted felon with a previous weapons charge in Danbury. He has been detained since his federal arrest on Jan. 10.
